The Things You Should Know When Travelling to Russia – Here’s Your Guide

In my life, I have always heard all good things about Russia – Russian streets, the amazing people (sometimes), the vodka, and even the insanely beautiful women out there, and I have to say I was flabbergasted every time.

But, Russia is more than just these few things and that I understood only when I visited Russia for the first time. And, because I faced a few problems the first time I travelled, I decided to bring out the crucial information for you so you can get an idea of what you should take into consideration when travelling to Russia.

Read further for more details and for the information that will definitely be helpful.

  • Avoid Getting Involved in Political Conversations – You may have all the idea about the Russian politics and everything dating back to the Soviet times but it is in best interest that you avoid any of these conversations. Honestly, remember that Russia is a politically charged country and when locals ask for your opinion about the politics you should simply say quiet. If you go by my advice it is best that you say you’re not from around here so you’ve got practically no say in the country’s politics.

Trust me this is the smartest answer you could really give (sometimes throughout your stay in Russia)

  • You Definitely Need to be Money Savvy in Moscow – Moscow is one of the most expensive cities even if you compare it to London’s standards. Despite being an expensive city there are still a couple of things that you can do for free. If you’re visiting in good weather, the Gorky Park is a great place to while away an afternoon watching Muscovites revel in the sunshine.

Head to Red Square to soak up in the incredible architecture of St. Basil’s cathedral and Lenin’s mausoleum then duck into GUM, the state department stores. It is an impressive building that is always lit by skylights which have been made up from more than 20,000 panes of glass.

Then there is Stolovaya 57 that serves traditional Russian food at extremely reasonable prices. You will get some good change from tenner for stroganoff, baked apples and some warm kompot – a drink that has been made from a stewed fruit.

  • Don’t Keep Draining Your Glass with the Drinks – Russians are the people who can literally drink the night away and still wake up straight in the morning for their regular work. Russians have a legendary love for vodka and this stereotype is actually true. In fact, the word vodka comes from ‘Voda’ which is Russian for water.

Once they start a new bottle they will not deviate from it and will drink it up until it is all finished. It you do not want to drink further it is best to leave some vodka in your glass to indicate that you do not want any more for the time.

Also, when you’re drinking in Russia avoid mixing – the women in Russia mix their drink with orange juice or other juices sometimes – if you do not like to have it mixed then don’t. Your time in Russia should definitely not just be a drinking spree but a lot more things to experience.

  • Avoid Wearing Flip – Flops in Cities – Russian women are always well dressed, ALWAYS. And, if you just walk the streets in Russia you would see that all the people there are insanely well dressed and ready to walk the ramp just any day. They’re on point from head to toe so if you are someone who likes to roam around in flip – flops then you’ll have to bring out some changes in your fashion if you really wish to get some reputation in Russia.

Wearing flip –flops in Russia is an epitome of bad taste. At the very least people will stare at you but if you’re extremely unlucky you can also expect whispers, sniggering and even for some to take pictures.

Make it a clear point and say no to flip – flops when you’re in Russia.

  • The Russian Women are Fancy and Steamy HotI was always told Russian women are entirely beautiful but the truth of it I experienced during my time in Russia. It is absolutely true that Russian women are extremely hot, steamy and high maintenance – and the fact about high maintenance is also because they know they’re all worthwhile and with less number of Russian men they’ll be ready to date you.

Dating a woman in Russia may not be as difficult but you can take my word for it that Russian women will always expect a happy, romantic and honest relationship from you. They’re not for one – night stands and other fun things because even though they are high maintenance, they’ve still got deep rooted love for their families and that is what they will be looking for in you.

Your time in Russia will be definitely great because there is so much here for you to experience but there are some things you need to be particularly aware of. For example, little idea about the Russian language is always important – simply because you cannot just visit another city on another continent without knowing their language.

And, last – I hope all of this information really helps you when you’re travelling to Russia. And, the thing about Russian women – all of that is definitely true but if you are willing to date someone you can start online dating because that is the easiest way to get in touch with someone and know them better.
